Synergistic effects of Cymbopogon citratus and Prunus dulcis oil on selected microbes

Abstract

The present study focuses on the synergistic antimicrobial potential of Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass) and Prunus dulcis (almond) oil against microbes. A total of 24 ml of oil was extracted from a mixture of 100 g almond and 20 g lemongrass at 200°C (20% oil extracted). Incense sticks containing the synergistic essential oil of Cymbopogon citratus and Prunus dulcis with cow dung were prepared. The sticks have an aromatic essence. Bioactive compounds present in oil were selected based on reported phytochemical composition and subjected to molecular docking analysis against essential microbial target proteins. The Cymbopogon citratus and Prunus dulcis synergy essential oil shows positive to Saponins and Cardiac glycosides. Comparative analysis of interactions revealed a potential synergistic effect at the molecular level. The docking results showed that kaempferol, quercetin and fisetin are effective compounds against the protein of Escherichia coli (1Q0Y Hemolysin E), Aspergillus niger (7BLY chitin deacetylase) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (1KVE Halotolerent yeast).
