Effect of nano-urea supplementation on growth and yield of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.)

Abstract

A field investigation entitled “Effect of nano-urea supplementation on growth and yield of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.)” was carried out at farm of All India Coordinated Research Project on Linseed, Nagpur, during rabi season of 2023-2024. The experimental field was laid out in a factorial randomized block design (FRBD) with two factors. The first factor A was comprised of three nitrogen doses treatments viz., F1, F2 and F3 in two splits 50% as basal and 50% as top dressing and the second factor B comprised of four foliar nitrogen supplementation treatments viz., N1, N2, N3 and N4 forming 12 treatment combinations replicated three times. Soil of experimental field was clayey. Result revealed that, soil application of 100% RDN (F1) recorded maximum and significantly highest growth and yield attributes over the rest of treatments. Among the application of foliar nitrogen supplementation treatments the application of two sprays of nano-urea @ 3 ml L-1 each at flower initiation and capsule development stage (N2), recorded maximum and significantly highest growth and yield attributes however, growth attributes viz., No. of branches plant-1 and dry matter accumulation plant-1 were at par with treatment (N4) two sprays of 2% urea at flower initiation and capsule development stage. Significantly highest seed yield, straw yield, gross monetary return, net monetary return and Highest B:C ratio were recorded with the application of F1 similarly, among foliar nitrogen supplementation treatments the application of two sprays of nano-urea @ 3 ml L-1 each at flower initiation stage and capsule development stage (N2) recorded significantly highest seed yield, straw yield, gross monetary return, net monetary return and Highest B:C ratio. The interaction effect between nitrogen doses and foliar nitrogen supplementation treatments for growth, yield attributes, yield and economics were non significant except for chlorophyll content where the interaction was significant at 90 DAS.
