Response of integrated nitrogen management in Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum L.) Under Western U.P. Conditions

Abstract

Buckwheat is an old and underutilized crop of Asia and widely cultivated in the world, belongs to the family polygonaceae. A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of integrated nitrogen management on yield attributes and yield of buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum L.). The experiment included combinations of farmyard manure (FYM), NPK consortia, inorganic nitrogen, nano urea, and biostimulant (Sagarika). Results revealed that seed clusters plant⁻¹, seeds cluster⁻¹, test weight, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield and harvest index were significantly influenced by different treatments. Among the treatments, T₅ (Seed treatment with NPK consortia + 20 kg N ha⁻¹ + Nano urea spray at 30 DAS+ Bio stimulant Sagarika) recorded the highest values for grain yield, straw yield and harvest index followed by T₆ (Seed treatment with NPK consortia + 30 kg N/ha + Nano urea spray at 30 DAS). The control treatment recorded the lowest values across all parameters. This study highlights the importance of integrated nitrogen management for sustainable buckwheat cultivation under western U.P. conditions.
