Studies on moisture conservation practices in linseed (Linum usitatisimum L.)
Abstract
The experiment was analyzed in rabi season of 2020-2021 on Experimental Plot of Agronomy College of Agriculture Latur, to examine the Studies on the moisture conservation practices in linseed. Soil of observational plot was clayey loam in texture, neutral in chemical reaction having pH 7.05 along with chemical composition such as accessible nitrogen (231 kg ha-1), very low in accessible phosphorous (8.57 kg ha-1) and Good amount of available potassium (580 kg ha-1). Soils were well drained good moisture holding capacity and capable for optimum crop growth. The experiment was articulated on Randomized Block Design using eight treatments. The treatments were T1 -No mulching, T2 -Soybean straw mulching at 5 t ha- 1, T3 -Spreading of FYM at 5 t ha-1 as a mulch, T4 -Incorporation of FYM in soil at 5 t ha- 1, T5 -Dust mulching at 30 DAS & Hand weeding, T6 -Dust mulching at 30 DAS, Hand weeding & Hoeing at 45 DAS, T7 -Dust mulching at 30 DAS & Hoeing, T8 -Dust mulching at 30 DAS & Hoeing at 45 DAS. The usable and available plot size of each experimental plot was 5.4 m x 4.5 m and 4.5 m x 3.6 m, respectively. Sowing operation was done on the dated 09 November-2021 by using dibbling method using seed rate of 20 kg ha-1. The recommended dose of fertilizer to linseed was 40:20:20: kg NPK ha-1. The result demonstrated by application of Soybean straw mulching at 5t ha-1 (T2) was discovered most effective to increasing growth and productivity and profitability of linseed. From all the different treatments, application of Soybean straw mulching at 5 t ha-1 demonstrated by beneficial in increasing growth, yield attributed character and yield of linseed then No mulching or combination of Spread FYM at 5 t ha- 1 as a mulch respectively. Utilization of Soybean straw mulching at 5 t ha-1 T2, was superior with respect of gross and net monetary return and followed by T3 and T4. Similarly Good B:C ratio (2.29) had observed with the application of Soybean straw mulching (T2).
