Influence of different spacing and pruning height on quality attributes of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Kesar under ultra high density plantation
Abstract
A study was carried out at Regional Horticultural Research Station, ASPEE College of Horticulture, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat during 2020-21 to 2021-22 on ten years old mango plants under ultra high density planting system i.e. 3m×3m, 3m×2m and 3m×1.5m spacing and headed back at 2m and 2.5m plant height from ground level. The trial was laid out in large plot technique comprising of six treatments and four replications and data were statistically analysed by split plot design. Results indicated that wider spacing 3m×3m (S₁) produced the maximum fruit weight (271.73 g), pulp percentage (54.07%), pulp: stone ratio (3.87), total soluble solids (18.81 °Brix), ascorbic acid content (37.87 mg/100 g pulp), total sugars (13.33%), reducing sugars (6.95%), and non-reducing sugars (6.15%), along with the lowest acidity (0.27%). Pruning height did not show a significant effect. The study demonstrates that wider spacing 3m×3m (S1) under ultra high density planting enhances both biochemical and physical fruit quality of mango cv. Kesar.
