Biochemical parameters of tree mulberry influenced by different integrated nutrient management

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the rabi and summer seasons of 2023-24 at the College of Sericulture, Chintamani, to assess the influence of different levels of integrated nutrient management (INM) on the biochemical parameters of tree mulberry (Morus spp.) variety V-1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications, comprising various combinations of chemical fertilizers and organic manures. The biochemical parameters studied included total carbohydrates, total proteins, chlorophyll content, leaf moisture content, and moisture retention capacity (MRC). Results revealed that the application of 100% Recommended Dose of Fertilizers (RDF) + 25% Farmyard Manure (FYM) equivalent Vermicompost (VC) + 25% FYM equivalent Poultry Manure (PM) + 25% FYM equivalent Sheep Manure (SM) + Liquid Microbial Consortia (LMC) significantly enhanced all the studied biochemical traits compared to other treatments. The improvement in these parameters indicates enhanced physiological efficiency and better leaf quality, essential for successful silkworm rearing. The findings highlight the potential of integrated nutrient management in improving mulberry leaf biochemistry, thereby contributing to sustainable sericulture practices.
