Resource use efficiency and constraints analysis of paddy cultivation: A study in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

This research highlights the resource use efficiency and challenges of paddy cultivation in Ballia District of Uttar Pradesh. The research is based on primary data collected through personal interview and survey schedule from the respondents. The data was collected in the research year 2023-2024. Cobb-douglas production function was used to analyse the resource use efficiency where production elasticity of X3 and X4 were statistically significant. The garrett ranking was used to rank the constraints according to the order of severity where lack of labour was major challenge faced by the farmers with high cost of inputs and lack of proper variety available. India is major producer of rice in the world making sound policies related to credit availability, hand-on training programmes and knowledge and accessibility of improved varieties.
