Exposure of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) induces renal, hepatocellular and lung toxicity

Abstract

2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is a synthetic herbicide used to control broad-leaved weeds and other vegetation on agricultural lands, lawns, forests and parks. Due to its frequent use, 2,4-D has led to adverse effects on human and animal health. This review focuses on the effect of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid on liver, kidney and lung in animal models and cell line. Information including protocol of experiment focusing on the type of animal used, experimental conditions, pesticide dosage, mode of administration, exposure duration and their main finding were taken from research paper available on pubmed database and google scholar. After the review, it was found that 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid induces renal toxicity, liver and lung damage.
