Comparative Analysis of the effects of high intensity interval training (HIIT) on endurance performance in elite athletes
Abstract
The intention of the study is to compare traditional forms of endurance training with HIIT to evaluate and examine their effects on as elite athletes’ endurance performance. The study will compare elite athletes engaging in HIIT with those undertaking traditional endurance training in regards to physiological adaptations, including VO2 max, lactate threshold, and muscular endurance. The study will provide a comparative overview of training protocols and performance variables and discuss its findings in regard to enhancing training protocols in competitive sport. Due to its promise for enhancing endurance performance in elite athletes, there has been interest expressed in HIIT or high intensity training protocols within the sport training community. This study compares the physiological responses to HIIT and traditional endurance training, and their effects on performance outcomes in elite athletes. The theoretical context is provided by careful systematic investigation of literature which also identifies the mechanisms by which HIIT relates to physiological factors such as, VO2 max, lactate threshold, and muscular endurance. The study employs a randomized controlled trial as its methodology and uses elite athletes from different sports to participate in regular endurance training programs or HIIT for a set duration. The effectiveness of the training is assessed based on performance metrics or markers such as sport specific performance tests, and physiological markers (e.g., oxygen consumption measure, heart rate measures, lactate threshold) before training and post training. The results will provide an understanding of the similarities and differences between HIIT and traditional endurance training with respect to sport performance, and offer coaches and sports scientists practical recommendations and guidance around training athletes using HIIT in order to achieve optimum endurance capacity within the context of sport competition. This topic allows for an in-depth examination of a well-known sport training method providing insight into its effectiveness and possible uses for athlete performance enhancement.
