Abstract

Guava (Psidium\r\nguajava L.), a nutrient-rich tropical fruit widely grown across India and\r\nAsia, faces major challenges from infestations by fruit flies of the genus Bactrocera,\r\nespecially B. dorsalis, B. zonata, and B. correcta. These\r\ninsects inflict significant damage on yields and serve as quarantine pests,\r\nlimiting export potential. This review presents a comprehensive update on the\r\nseasonal trends, population fluctuations, and damage severity caused by Bactrocera\r\nspecies in guava cultivation, with a focus on the impact of environmental\r\nfactors. Additionally, it explores sustainable control measures, highlighting\r\nthe role of methyl eugenol-based methods and integrated pest management (IPM)\r\nstrategies aimed at mitigating fruit fly pressure, particularly during the\r\nrainy season crop cycle.
