Effect of trichome on linseed bud fly (Dasyneura lini) in different linseed genotypes

Abstract

The importance of bud fly (Dasyneura ini) (Diptera: cecidomyidae) in linseed crops has been growing, mainly to identify resistant genotypes. To investigate effect of trichome on linseed bud fly field and lab experiment was conducted at, IGKV, Raipur (C.G.) during two consecutive Rabi season of 2022-23 and 2023-24. The objective of this study was to evaluate resistant genotypes to Dasyneura lini in linseed genotypes with different sizes of sepal trichome. Antioxenosis was evaluated by calculating percent damage by bud fly in linseed genotypes. The study was performed in lab condition by observing size of trichome in microscope of 25 genotypes where BRLS 110-7, RL 18105, LCK 2037, BRLS 109-5, LCK 2209, BRLS 106-1, BAU-2022-03, OL-2013-14-2022-1, LCK 2140, RLC197 showed resistance to Dasyneura lini mediated by large trichome size. These genotypes could be appropriate for breeding programs aiming to incorporate sources of resistance to Dasyneura lini. Trichome length in linseed genotypes observed a highly significant and negative correlation with r value-0.921 to bud fly infestation.
