The wound-healing potential of gotu kola extract: A review of topical gel formulations

Abstract

The study aims to develop and evaluate a gel formulation containing Centella Asiatica (commonly known as gotu kola) extract for its wound-healing efficacy. The formulation focuses on optimizing physiochemical properties, ensuring stability, and assessing pharmacological activity. The gel was prepared using suitable excipients and characterized for properties such as pH, viscosity, spread ability, and homogeneity. Stability studies were conducted under varying conditions to evaluate shelf life. Pharmacological activity was assessed through in vitro and in vivo models to analyze the gel's potential in accelerating wound closure and tissue regeneration. Results demonstrated that the gotu-kola-based gel exhibited favourable physiochemical properties, remained stable over time, and significantly promoted faster and more effective wound healing compared to controls. This study highlights the therapeutic potential of gotu kola as a natural and effective wound-healing agent.
