Exploring the production, composition, and multifaceted applications of Nagarmotha (Cyperus scariosus) essential oil: A comprehensive review

Abstract

Nagarmotha (Cyperus scariosus), also known as Nutgrass, is a significant aromatic plant known for its essential oil, which has a wide array of applications across various industries and it has a diverse medicinal importance. As medicinal and aromatic products are becoming exponentially throughout the world and chromatic pharmaceutical sectors are nowadays conducting expansive exploration on factory accoutrements for their implicit medicinal value. Plant derived oils have recently been demonstrated to be more advantageous in the pharmaceutical industry than synthetic products since these plants contain biologically active chemicals that have shown a variety of therapeutic effects. A comprehensive study has been undertaken to highlight the therapeutic benefits of plant extracts. C. scariosus extracts have been extensively employed as anti-hyperglycemic, anti-nociceptive, hepatoprotective, anti-fungal, plant growth regulator (PGR), insecticidal, and ovicidal agents, among other things. C. scariosus, often known as 'Nagarmotha', is an Indian medicinal plant that has been shown to provide a variety of health advantages. This plant normally flourishes in tropical, subtropical and temperate climates. It is an Indian medicinal manufactory demonstrated to put out multiple health benefits and are used for colorful conditions of affections in traditional systems of drugs since ancient times. It contains essential oil painting, terpenoids, sesquiterpenes, hydrocarbons, steroidal saponins, ketones, and flavonoids.
