Crossability parameters studies including dominant morphological markers in finger millet (Eleusine coracana)
Abstract
The present research was conducted in Kharif 2023 under AICRP, at the S. G. College of Agriculture and Research Station, Kumhrawand, Jagdalpur, Bastar (C.G.). The experiment was carried out for evaluating performance of genotypes and to study about crossability parameters including dominant morphological markers in 40 genotypes of finger millet (Eleusine coracana) planted in Randomized block design. Under crossability parameters study to draw inference about making possible crosses among genotypes they were categorized on the basis of flowering synchronization, dominant morphological marker, genetic divergence and quantitative parameters from the recorded data. Under dominant morphological marker to study about crossability from gathered data it was found that possible crosses can be made between pigmented and non-pigmented genotypes (PRM 2 × VL 347, MR 630 × RAU 8, VR 929 × IIMR 9) same goes with the cross between genotypes with pigmented pollen and genotypes with non-pigmented pollen (VL 352 × BM9-1, OEB 10 × CFMV 3, ML 365 × CFMV 2). Further, the data collected from genetic divergence study was also used to make inference about possible crosses between genotypes [genotypes of Cluster I (VL 376, VL 347, VL 352, VL 382, PRM 2, RAU 8, Arjun mandia, BM9-1, CO14) × genotypes of Cluster V (MR 1, MR 301, ML 365, GPU 28, GPU 66, CG Ragi 2, Phule kasari, ATL 1)] which would result in better heterotic individuals.
