Comparative analysis of morphological traits and physico-chemical properties of juice from sugarcane varieties Co 86032, MS 8005 and MS 10001

Abstract

Sugarcane varieties Co 86032, MS 8005 and MS 10001 were studied for its morphological and yield characteristics. The results showed that variety MS10001 had highest length (250.34 cm), diameter (top-3.17 cm, middle-3.32 cm and bottom-3.45 cm) and weight (4.09 kg). Variety MS8005 had highest average length of internode (12.01 cm). Colour of sugarcane variety Co 86032 was reddish pink, MS 8005 was yellowish green and that of MS 10001 was green. Sugarcane variety Co 86032 showed highest juice yield (65.61 percent) and sucrose (21.35 percent). After extraction of sugarcane juice from these varieties it was revealed that sugarcane juice extracted from variety Co 86032 showed highest values for ash (0.23 percent), TSS (19.5 ̊ Bx), viscosity (3.82 Cp), acidity (0.301) and Non-reducing sugar content (19.60 percent).
