Effect of seasonality on physiological parameters of grain Amaranthus (Amaranthus hypochondriacus L.)

Abstract

The present study was conducted to test the effect of seasonality on physiological parameters of grain amaranthus (Amaranthus hypochondriacus L.). The experiment was conducted at PGI farm, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri (Maharashtra) during Rabi 2021-22, summer 2022-23 and Kharif 2022-23 seasons. A total of eight genotypes were sown in Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) with three replications. Physiological parameters were taken at 50% flowering. The objective of the research was to study effect of seasons on physiological parameters such as photosynthetic rate and transpiration rate of grain amaranth. It is essential to know about the suitable season for crop growth. Photosynthetic rate play key role in increasing yield. The results recorded significant differences in response to different seasons, genotypes as well as their interaction for photosynthetic rate and transpiration rate. These findings suggest that rabi season (S1) recorded higher photosynthetic rate followed by kharif season (S2) While, summer season recorded lowest photosynthetic rate. For transpiration rate, among the seasons, rabi season recorded lowest followed by kharif season, whereas summer season recorded highest transpiration rate. Among the genotypes RGAG 12-22 recorded highest photosynthetic rate and lower transpiration rate.
