Assessment of custard apple genotypes for chemical quality traits

Abstract

In order to investigate the performance of various custard apple genotypes and the chemical characteristics of custard apple genotypes, the present research investigation, "Evaluation of custard apple genotypes on chemical quality performance," was conducted at Satpuda Botanical Garden, Horticulture Section, College of Agriculture, Nagpur, in year 2022-23. Twenty-two genotypes of custard apple and Balanagar (check) were used in the non-replicated trial, which was set up as a t-test. Chemical quality parameters were used to evaluate each genotype. In terms of the chemical parameters, the genotype NCA-3 had the highest TSS (24.8 0B) and the highest levels of reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars and total sugar (14.80%, 3.80%, and 18.60% respectively). Maximum titrable acidity (0.48%) was found in NCA-20 and ascorbic acid (38.20 mg/100g) in NCA-15. While the maximum shelf life of custard apple was recorded in genotypes NCA-3, NCA-12, NCA-15, and NCA-20 (3.5 days). Genotype NCA-3 was found significantly superior over Balanagar (check) and other genotypes in respect of chemical quality parameters followed by NCA-15 and NCA-20.
