Abstract

The present investigation entitled “Studies on effect of polyamines and Packaging material on shelf life of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Kesar was carried out during summer season at Fruit Research Station, Himayat Bagh, Aurangabad during 2024-25. The objective was to study the effect of polyamines and packaging materials on shelf life of Mango. The experiment laid out in Factorial Completely Randomized Design (FCRD) with seven treatments replicated twice, involving two factors, resulting in fourteen treatment combinations. First factor of polyamines included seven levels viz. Control (P0), Putrescine 1.0 mM / Lit (P1), Putrescine 1.5 mM / Lit (P2), Putrescine 2.0 mM / Lit (P3), Spermidine 1.0 mM / Lit (P4), Spermidine 1.5 mM / Lit (P5), Spermidine 2.0 mM / Lit (P6) and second factor comprised of packaging material at two levels viz. Corrugated Fiber Board Box (M0) and Plastic Box (M1) along with their interaction effect consisting of 14 treatment combinations. The findings revealed that postharvest application of polyamines, particularly when stored in plastic boxes, effectively extended shelf life by reducing spoilage and physiological weight loss. The investigation concludes that applying putrescine (2 mM/L and 1.5 mM/L) and spermidine (2 mM/L and 1.5 mM/L) in combination with plastic box packaging can extend the shelf life of mangoes up to 24 days.
