Study of the potential antibacterial activity of plant extracts of Adina cordifolia using the thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay

Abstract

The therapeutic effects of plant extracts, which have high activity against a number of ailments because they contain helpful bioactive components, are gaining more and more attention. The antibacterial activity of Adina cordifolia extracts was studied. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of Adina cordifolia leaf and root extracts against possible bacterial strains using chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, methanol and aqueous extracts. Two bacterial strains, Salmonella typhimurium and E. coli were subjected for antibacterial activity. A good inhibitory and bactericidal action was demonstrated by Adina cordifolia extracts against bacterial strains because of the presence of unique bioactive components including 7-hydroxycoumarin.
