Problems of teacher education in India

Abstract

In the past fifty years, especially in recent decades, the landscape of teaching and learning has experienced significant transformations. A transition has occurred towards student-centered classrooms, with the teacher's position evolving into that of a facilitator of learning rather than an authoritarian figure. In contrast to the past, when educators were responsible for imparting curriculum knowledge to a passive student audience, contemporary classrooms are experimenting with project-based learning, the cultivation of critical thinking abilities, and discovery learning methodologies. Textbooks have been revised under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), which I believe has resulted in a decline in quality in several aspects. Numerous educators lack enough training in the application of the new curricular concepts and are ill-equipped to administer the curriculum effectively.
