An assessment of economics of gram production in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

The present study was carried out with objective to estimate cost and returns of gram under different size of sample farms in study area. The study is confined to different three district of Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh as it is one of the major gram producing region with its favorable agro-climatic factor for gram crop. A sample of 300 respondents comprises 149 marginal, 93 small and 58 large sizes farmers were selected by proportionate random sampling method. The required data were collected from random selected respondents by using of pre structured survey schedule for the estimation of per hectare cost of cultivation, income of gram and B:C ratio. The overall average cost of cultivation was estimated of gram production on the sample farms came to Rs. 35284.61. The cost of cultivation was found of direct relation to the size of the holding. Per hectare gross income on the overall farm was Rs. 76310.00 and net income was Rs. 41025.39. Per hectare, gross income had a direct relation to farm size and B: C ratio was 1:1.16 on overall farms. On the basis of finding of study, it is recommended that the study area is exceptionally potential for pulse crop and it is economically viable.
