Effect of different growth media on growth and sporulation of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and C.acutatum causing leaf spot in Acid lime

Abstract

The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of different growth media on growth and sporulation of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Colletotrichum acutatum causing leaf spot in acid lime. Generally the growth of the fungus is greatly influenced by nutritional factors such as carbon and nitrogen source, these factors are mainly important for growth and sporulation of fungi. Four different media viz., Potato Dextrose Agar, Corn Meal Agar, Oat Meal Agar, Water Agar were studied for growth and sporulation of pathogen. The pathogens showed great variation in colony colour and sporulation rate on different media. Colletotrichum gleosporioides showed Colony colour varied from white to greyish and semi-transparent to transparent. Culture colour of Colletotrichum acutatum varied from whitish orange to greyish green. Among different media studied, Potato Dextrose Agar and Oat meal Agar gave better growth and sporulation of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Colletotrichum acutatum.
