Physiological and biochemical analysis of Celosia genotypes
Abstract
Physiological and biochemical characteristics of twenty Celosia genotypes were studied in order to select the genotype of best quality. The Celosia genotypes (Celosia cristata, Celosia plumose, Celosia argentea) were collected from different places of Tamil Nadu. Those genotypes showed variability in physiological and biochemical characteristics. The range for the Celosia quality parameters are as follows: Total chlorophyll content ranged between 1.591 mg g-1 and 0.288 mg g-1. The relative water content ranged between 85.33 % and 62.42 %. The leaf area ranged between 51.34 and 18.07 cm2. The total phenol content ranged between 10.70 and 8.00 (mg g-1). The betalain content was ranged between 150.44 to 103.84 mg 100-1 g.
