Studies on packaging of pomegranate arils in CV. Bhagwa under different storage conditions

International Journal of Chemical Studies · 2019 · Vol. 7(3) · pp. 1517–1520

Abstract

The present study was made with an objective to standardize the packaging material for minimally processed pomegranate arils under both ambient (27±2 °C) and cold storage (12±2 °C) conditions. The packaging materials used in this study are LDPE 25 micron, polypropylene 25 micron, aluminium foil and cling film. Observations were made on physiological and biochemical characters of the fruit arils. The observations were recorded at three days interval in cold storage condition (0th day, 3rd day,6th day, 9th day, 12th day, 15th day and 18th day) and two days interval (2nd day and 4th day) in ambient storage condition. The treatment T5 recorded the highest PLW (18.43 per cent) on the 18th day of cold storage. At 2nd day of ambient storage, the lowest PLW was observed in the treatment T4 (Cling film) (1.43 per cent). On 9th day of cold storage period, the least decay percent was recorded in the treatment T1 (LDPE 25 micron) (3.45 per cent). No decay percent was recorded in the packaging treatments such as T1, T2 and T4 and the highest decay percent was registered in the treatment T5 (3.54 per cent). On 3rd day of cold storage period, the highest TSS: Acid ratio was recorded in treatment T2 (43.22) while on 2nd day of ambient storage period, the highest TSS: Acid ratio was observed in the treatment T2 (68.87).
