Effectiveness of a structured teaching programme on knowledge of first aid and emergency management among primary school teachers in Faridkot district

Abstract

Introduction: It is a study to assess the effectiveness of a structured teaching programme on knowledge of primary school teachers regarding some common first aid and its management in primary school going children. First aid is a provision of initial care for an illness or injury. It can be performed by professionals or non-professionals until definite medical treatment can be assessed. It saves the life of a person. Aim of the study: To assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge of primary school teachers regarding first aid and emergency management for selected ailments among primary school going students in selected schools of district, Faridkot. Materials and Methods: It is a quantitative approach with pre-experimental one group pre-test post - test research design was used. The 100 samples were selected by using a convenient sampling technique from selected schools of Faridkot, Punjab. Pre- test knowledge questionnaire was used to assess pre-test knowledge and after structured teaching programme post-test level was checked with help of self-structured knowledge questionnaire after 15 days. Results: Mean score of knowledge regarding first aid and emergency management for selected ailments was increased from 14.74 (50%) to 25.84 (89.1%) in post-test after structured teaching programme. Results show that there is a statistically significant increase in post-test mean score after structured teaching programme. Paired t test was applied to compare the pre-test and post-test mean scores. Paired t test value of knowledge was 27.724 at p<0.001 which shows that null hypothesis is rejected hence the structured teaching programme was found to be effective in improving the knowledge of primary school teachers.
