Developing an Integrated Framework using Environmental Identity (EI), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to attain a Normative Sustainable State in Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan

Abstract

It is absolutely acceptable to have one-time studies to understand the sustainability status of protected areas using human dimensions in conservation analysed using concepts and mechanism like environmental identity and education for sustainable development. These mechanisms have been used in various studies often using them singly or in a collective manner. The current research demonstrates the use of multiple human dimensions as components to develop an integrated framework for assessment of state of sustainability in the Ranthambore National Park. The individual components of human dimensions identified in addition to Environment Identity (EI), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and Enabling Conditions for Sustainable Development, Key Competencies (ECSD) and Key Competencies for Sustainable Development (KCSD) have been comprehensively integrated together into an Integrated Framework using Environmental Identity (EI), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to attain a Normative Sustainable State. It envisages to ascertain, track and enable periodic transition from the current sustainable state to the desired sustainable state that is from the present to the future visionary state. The Integrated Framework of Environmental Identity (EI) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) -the IEESD Framework is expected to be applicable in periodic assessment of state of sustainability, developing indicators of sustainable development and designing, planning managing and monitoring conservation projects.
