Evaluation of efficacy and safety of HPV vaccine in the treatment of genital warts
Abstract
Background: Genital warts are sexually transmitted infections caused by HPV, most commonly types 6 and 11. The treatment of genital warts is a challenging issue. No ideal therapy is detected. Intralesional immunotherapy had been recently evaluated as therapeutic modality for genital warts with successful rate.Aim of the Work: The aim of this work was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of HPV vaccine in the treatment of genital warts.Methods: The current study included 10 patients presenting with genital warts diagnosed based on the clinical appearance of skin lesions. Patients treated with intralesional quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus (type 6, 11, 16, 18) Recombinant Vaccine.Results: The response started at the 2nd session. There was a significant reduction in the size and the number of warts after the end of the treatment. Tolerable side effects were reported in the form of pain (100% of patients).Conclusion: It was concluded that HPV vaccine showed good and early response, but its high cost limits its use.
