Investigation of heavy metal bioaccumulation in various tissues of Labeo rohita fish from the Beehar River, Rewa district (M.P.) and its impact on fish health

Abstract

This research examines the accumulation of heavy metals in different tissues of fish collected from the Beehar River, aiming to evaluate the ecological and health risks linked to the river's water quality. Various fish species were sampled from several points along the river. The tissues analyzed included muscle, liver, gills, and skin to detect the presence and concentration of heavy metals. Advanced analytical methods, such as atomic absorption spectrometry and spectroscopy, were utilized for precise metal concentration measurements. Findings revealed notable differences in metal accumulation across fish species and tissue types, with the liver and gills displaying higher levels compared to muscle and skin. Furthermore, the study highlighted that heavy metal concentrations in Labeo rohita from the Beehar River surpassed the permissible limits established by regulatory bodies, posing a significant risk to aquatic ecosystems and human communities dependent on the river's resources.
