Impact of Acceptance of Disability on Quality of Life, Body Image, Gender Equality and Day-to-Day Challenges of Locomotor Disabled Persons

Abstract

This review analyses the diverse effects of Acceptance of Disability (AOD) on the life experiences faced by people with locomotor disabilities. Locomotor impairment, marked by substantial mobility limitations in the limbs and joints, requires a multifaceted psychological adaptation process shaped by internal self-perception and external societal attitudes. This paper examines the relationship of well-being indicators, such as Quality of Life (QOL), body image, assertiveness, and marital prospects, by integrating contemporary research from diverse psychosocial fields. Analysis indicates that AOD functions as a vital mediator for psychological well-being. People who have a high level of acceptance tend to have a better body image, which helps them move around in social and digital spaces without feeling bad about themselves. AOD also helps people be more assertive, which gives them the power to stand up for their rights in public and school settings. On the other hand, low AOD is often made worse by systemic "ableism," social stigma, and cultural barriers, especially when it comes to marriage and work. The review underscores a critical gender aspect, indicating that women with disabilities encounter intersectional obstacles related to social exclusion and economic stability. In the end, the paper calls for a shift from models based on charity and medicine to a framework based on human rights, as the CRPD (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) says. To remove the structural and attitudinal barriers that stop equality and participation, we need to change the way we think about disability from a "personal tragedy" to a social duty. To lessen the negative effects of internalised stigma and improve the overall quality of life for people with locomotor disabilities, it is suggested that individual resilience and family support systems be strengthened.
