Integrated nutrient management: Concept and principles

International Journal of Agriculture and Nutrition · 2026 · Vol. 8(3) · pp. 09–11

Abstract

The greatest challenges faced by the agricultural planners worldwide is food security, no hunger target and zero poverty succeeded by raising standards of living of the rural people by agricultural transformation. Due to the panic state of growing population and scarcity of the cultivable land, changing agronomic practices that could show significant effect on crop productivity and production is essentially needed. Integrated nutrient management has a bright solution by combining various plant nutrient sources to maintain soil health & crop productivity and also obstruct nutrient depletion. lately a few researchers founded that integrated use of organic fertilizers, inorganic fertilizers, bio-fertilizers and green manure is becoming an essential practice not only for enhancing crop production as well as productivity but also for the good soil and crop health. Additionally, integrated nutrient management helps out to enhance the soil microorganism’s activities and upgrades the soil chemical, physical and biological properties. Hence integrated nutrient management generate an economic eco-friendly environment by lowering the dependence on the chemical fertilizers and enhancing soil fertility, maximizing profitability, optimizing crop yield and finally achieving sustainable agriculture. In conclusion, integrated nutrient management is a good agricultural practice which has to be followed by people for maintaining soil health, balance of nutrients and also to build the agriculture and environment further sustainable.
