Temperamental ability in games and sports: An understanding of the factors and its influences

Abstract

Purpose: The study was to find out and compare the level of Temperamental ability (Sociability, Emotionality, Energy Attentivity and Rhythmicity) between the school going boys and girls students. Method: Total 600 school going students were selected randomly as subjects, both equally from Boys and Girls. The age of subjects was ranged from 06 – 14 years which categories into three like Early Childhood for age 06 - 08 years, Late Childhood for age 09 – 11 years and Early Adolescence for age 12 – 14 years and again grouped into two i.e. Boys and Girls. The temperament ability was measured by a specific test questionnaire made by Dr. Savita Malhotra and Dr. Anil Malhotra. Mean and standard deviation (S.D.) were calculated for the analysis of data as descriptive statistics. Statistical significance of two groups i.e. Boys and Girls in respective age category, mean difference was tested by Independent - sample T - Test. All the statistical calculations were done by SPSS version 25. Results: In the playing field the significant differences were observed between Boys and Girls. Early Childhood Boys were better emotional for their general positivity, happy mood, more rhythmic, regularity and predictable biological function. Late Childhood Boys were more energetic (physical as well as psychological), also rhythmic for their regularity and predictable biological function and on the contrary Girls were fleeting attention and highly distractible. But, at Early Adolescence age category Girls were better in sociability for their quite responsive to the environment, adjustable and uninhibited, and also better emotionality for their general positivity and happy mood whereas Boys were more energetic i.e. physical as well as psychological energy than that of their counterpart.
