Comparative study of explosive leg power, core strength and body power between male under graduate and graduate students

Abstract

Fitness may be divided in three areas physical, mental and social fitness. In physical fitness power is one of the very important components. Ground power may increase the power of performance and low level of power may produce injury proneness. The aim of the study was to compare two major parameters of explosive leg power, core strength & body power between male under graduate & graduate students. 20 Male students of DPESS, Vsva-Bharati, Santiniketan, India were selected as the subject. 10 Students from under graduate and rest of 10 students from graduate were selected conveniently for this study. The age of the subjects ranged between 18 to 25 years. The variable selected for the study was explosive leg power, core strength & body power. To compute the data, descriptive statistics and t-test was used. The result have shown that the under graduate and graduate students did not differ significantly in the explosive leg power and core strength & body power. The mean value of explosive leg power for under graduate & graduate students were mean: 2.65 meter and 2.55 meter respectively and mean value of core strength & body power for the under graduate and graduate students were mean: 10.83 meter 8.23 meter respectively. For the fitness variables the t-value of explosive leg power and core strength & body power were 2.100 and 2.100 which were found not significant at 0.05 levels.Under graduate students were higher in explosive leg power and graduate students were better in Core strength and Body Power. Explosive leg Power and core strength & Body power which enhance strength, power & speed in order to improve athletic performance may.
