Quality parameters of spinach and fenugreek in hydroponic with nutrient film technique

Abstract

The present study aimed to evaluate the quality parameters of hydroponically grown spinach and fenugreek using the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) with different growing media. The experiment was conducted to evaluate the quality parameters such as moisture content, iron content, chlorophyll content, root fiber content, leaf area, and yield of the hydroponically grown spinach and fenugreek using the NFT system with different growing media such as oasis cubes, cocopeat with vermicompost, foam cubes, and open field cultivation using soil as the medium. The experiment revealed that hydroponic cultivation resulted in improved quality and yield of the crop compared to open field cultivation. Among the different growing media used in the experiment, the NFT system with oasis cubes was found to be the best medium with the highest values of moisture content (85.63% and 86.29%), leaf area (45.78 cm² and 12.78 cm²), iron content (297.98 ppm and 112.19 ppm), chlorophyll content (40.80 mg/g and 43.14 mg/g), root fiber content (3.56% and 2.84%), and yield (161.49 q/ha and 65.69 q/ha) for spinach and fenugreek, respectively.
