Abstract

Twelve healthy growing Vrindavani male cattle of uniform age and weight (1.5-2 years with 135-185 kg body weight were selected for the study. The animals were used in switch over design. The calves were randomly divided into five groups (6 animals each) viz. Group I (control, maintained in the shed on normal feeding without any treatment), Group II heat stress (HS), Group III (HS+ Chromium (Cr) supplementation), Group IV (HS+ Selenium (Se) supplementation) and Group V (HS+ Cr+ Se supplementation) for monitoring the effect of Cr, Se, Cr+Se supplementation on various group of animal. The Dietary supplementation of Chromium was given @ 0.5mg/kg/DMI/day and Selenium @ o.3mg/kg/DMI/day respectively. The respective groups of animals were exposed to 38 0C in Psychrometric chamber for 6 hours (9:00 AM–3:00 PM) a day. The effect of heat stress on few liver enzymes viz.
