A comparative study on sports personality of college level students
Abstract
Purpose: The study was to find out and compare the level of Sports Personality that are Sociability, Dominance, Extraversion, Self-Concept, Conventionality, Mental Toughness and Emotional Stability of college level students between Tribal community and General community. Method: Total 320 sports background college students were selected randomly as subjects from different colleges affiliated under Vidyasagar University. The students were equally divided into male and female and also equally sub-divided into Tribal community and General community. The age of subjects ranged from 18 - 21 years. The Sports Personality was measured by a questionnaire of the Sports Specific Personality Test (SSPT-sc) made by Agya Jit Singh and H. S. Cheema. Mean and standard deviation (S.D.) were calculated for the analysis of data as descriptive statistics. Statistical significance of two groups that are Tribal community and General community in respective category of male and female, mean difference was tested by Independent - sample T - Test. Results:Significant differences were observed in extraversion, self-concept and mental toughness for both the categories of male and female between tribal and general community. In dominance and conventionality, the significant difference was observed between tribal and general communities only for the female category. But in the emotional stability factor, at the male category, the significant difference was observed between tribal and general community. Remaining like sociability, dominance and conventionality of male category and emotional stability of the female category are insignificant.
