Chemical metabolites and evaluation of the biological efficacy of Guinean plants used in the treatment of oral candidiasis
Abstract
The work objective consists for determination of the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity on oral strains of hydro-alcohol crudes extracts Anacardium occidentale and Cocos nucifera L. of Kindia region. Traditional practitioners in Kindia frequently use these species to treat oral infections. Qualitative phytochemical analysis was performed using the colouration and precipitation method on the hydro-alcohol extract. The main metabolites were determined by the spectrophotometry method. The antimicrobial test was performed using the disc diffusion method. The extract of C. nucifera contain polyphenolic compounds, steroids, mucilages, and alkaloids, while the roots of A. occidentale are rich in phenolic metabolites, steroids, reducing compounds, mucilages. The hydro-alcohol extracts are showed that total phenols (38.61±0.84 mgEAG/g for C. nucifera and (20.05±1.01 mgEAG/g) for A. occidentale; flavonoids (46.34±2.41 mgEQ/g) for A. occidentale and 8.47±0.03 mgEQ/g for C. nucifera; tannins (7.15±0.06 mgECAT/g) for A. occidentale and 11.34±1.08 mgECAT/g for C. nucifera. The antimicrobial test showed that the A. occidentale extract exhibit the most activity against Candida albicans ATCC 10231, with 9.4±0.2 mm as inhibition diameter.
