Nutraceuticals in the management of benign breast diseases: Evidence and real-world clinical insights
Abstract
Background: Breast pain related to cyclic mastalgia, fibrocystic changes, post fibroadenoma surgery arise and lumps related to fibroadenoma arise from hormonal imbalance, inflammatory pathways, and low levels of essential fatty-acid. Conventional therapies provide limited and short-term relief, with tolerability concerns prompting interest in nutraceutical approaches. Objective: To evaluate the existing clinical evidence supporting the use of nutraceuticals in the management of benign breast diseases (BBD) and to assess real-world experience with their application in routine practice. Methods: A focused advisory board meeting involving gynecologists, breast surgeons and other specialities reviewed current treatment gaps and assessed clinical experience with nutraceuticals, including Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamin E, and Vitamin B6, in the management of BBD. Conclusion: Expert consensus suggests that nutraceuticals such as EPO, Vitamin E, and Vitamin B6 are effective and well-tolerated adjuncts in BBD management, providing multi-pathway symptom relief and supporting long-term conservative care.
