to evaluate the effectiveness of Health Education Module on knowledge and practice regarding Childhood Obesity and its Adverse Effects on health of Children among Mothers in selected Urban Areas at Vijayapur

Abstract

Background:A dangerous medical problem that affects kids and teenagers is childhood obesity. It's especially concerning because the excess weight frequently sets kids up for health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol that were previously thought to be adult issues. Methodology: A quantitative approach with pre experimental one group pretest post test design was adopted for the study. The samples from the selected urban areas of Vijayapura were selected using random sampling technique. The sample consisted of 60 mothers. The tools used for data collection was structured knowledge questionnaire and structured practice scale. Results: The study result reveal that, all mothers 60 (100%) had inadequate knowledge regarding childhood obesity and its adverse effects on children’s health, whereas in the post-test 32 (53.33%) had adequate knowledge and 26 (43.33%) had moderate knowledge, indicating a marked improvement in knowledge levels. Regarding practice, in the pre-test 42 (70%) mothers had moderate practice and 18 (30%) had adequate practice, while in the post-test all mothers 60 (100%) demonstrated adequate practice. The mean knowledge score increased from 5.57 (22.3%) in the pre-test to 18.13 (72.5%) in the post-test, with a significant difference (t = 27.547, p = 0.0001), indicating the effectiveness of the health education module. Similarly, the mean practice score improved from 20.93 (69.7%) in the pre-test to 27.88 (92.9%) in the post-test, which was also statistically significant (t = 24.082, p = 0.0001). Conclusion: Study results showed significant improvement in the level of knowledge and practice regarding childhood obesity and its adverse effect. Thus, it can be concluded that health education module was effective to increase and update their knowledge and practice.
