Role of Drones in Agriculture

Abstract

Drone technology has emerged as an innovative tool in modern agriculture, contributing significantly to the development of efficient and sustainable farming practices. Agricultural drones, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), are widely used for crop monitoring, precision spraying, soil analysis, irrigation management, and yield estimation. By integrating advanced technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, data analytics, and Artificial Intelligence, drones enable real-time collection and analysis of field data. This helps farmers detect crop stress, pest infestation, and nutrient deficiencies at early stages, thereby improving decision-making and resource management. Drone-based applications reduce labor dependency, minimize input wastage, and enhance agricultural productivity while promoting environmentally sustainable practices. Despite challenges such as high initial cost, limited battery life, and regulatory restrictions, drone technology holds immense potential for transforming traditional farming into Precision Agriculture systems. The adoption of drones is expected to play a vital role in ensuring food security, climate-resilient agriculture, and smart farm management in the future.
