Antimicrobial resistance of Pasteurella multocida isolated from caprine pneumonic lung

Abstract

Pasteurellosis is an important bacterial disease of small ruminants which is characterized by severe respiratory infection causing high morbidity and mortality. A total of 150 goats carcasses were screened for pneumonic lesions at the time of slaughter and post-mortem examination from May to October 2025. Among them, 51 goat carcasses were found pneumonic lesions. A total of 05 isolates were recovered from 51 samples collected from pneumonic goat lung. The isolates were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting KMT1 gene primers. The isolates were screened for antimicrobial resistance pattern using 13 antibiotics. All isolates exhibited complete resistance (100%) to penicillin followed by streptomycin (80%), gentamicin and oxytetracycline (60%). Conversely highest sensitivity to chloramphenicol (100%), followed by enrofloxacin (80%), co-trimoxazole and amoxyclav (60%), ceftriaxone, levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin (40%), while moderate sensitivity was observed for amikacin (80%) and ampicillin (60%).
