Preclinical evaluation of homoeopathic medicines in colorectal cancer models: A narrative review

Abstract

Background: Colorectal cancer, which represents a primary driver of both mortality and morbidity across diverse populations. Despite the significant strides made in conventional medical interventions ranging from surgical techniques to advanced chemotherapy and targeted molecular therapies, colorectal cancer remains a scourge clinical challenge. Objective: This persistence has contributed to a growing interest in complementary and alternative medicine among patients seeking to augment their primary treatments or manage side effects. Homoeopathy, characterized by the use of high-dilution preparations, is frequently among these utilized systems as a complementary and supportive therapy. Method: The scientific investigation into high-dilution medicines within the context of colorectal cancer is focused on the biological activity observed in laboratory models. These medicines are prepared through a standardized process of serial dilution and succussion; this narrative review aim is whether these preparations can cause measurable cytotoxic and apoptotic effects on malignant cell lines. Result: Preclinical research, particularly using colorectal cancer models such as HT29 and HCT116, has provided a foundation for evaluating these effects. Current experimental finding has shown measurable alteration in cell viability, and apoptotic markers.
