Efficacy of broiler poultry compost on the growth, yield and quality of mulberry
Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Efficacy of Broiler Poultry Compost on Growth and Yield of Mulberry” was conducted during 2024–2025 at the Department of Sericulture, University of Agricultural Sciences, Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (GKVK), Bengaluru. The study aimed to evaluate the influence of broiler poultry compost (BPC) in combination with recommended doses of fertilizers (RDF) on the growth, yield and quality performance of mulberry. Results revealed that the application of broiler poultry compost along with 100 per cent RDF significantly enhanced all growth parameters of mulberry. The highest number of shoots per plant (25.7), maximum leaves per shoot (24.38), largest leaf area (215.76 cm2) and maximum shoot length (125.46 cm) were recorded at 60 days after pruning (DAP) under BPC + 100 per cent RDF treatment across crops. Correspondingly, the highest leaf yield per plant (854.15 g) and the maximum yield per hectare (10.54 t/ha) were obtained from the same treatment, indicating its superiority over all other combinations. These findings suggest that the integration of broiler poultry compost with the recommended dose of fertilizers not only enhances vegetative growth and productivity of mulberry but also offers a sustainable approach for improving soil fertility and leaf quality.
