The Detailed Effects of Deprivation of Sleep on Range of Heart Rate and Maximum Oxygen Consumption Capacity in Cricket Players Under Similar Training Intensity

Abstract

This study explores the physiological consequences of acute sleep deprivation on heart rate dynamics and aerobic capacity (VO₂ max) among trained cricket players. Using a crossover design, twenty male athletes underwent high-intensity training sessions under normal sleep and sleep-deprived conditions. Resting heart rate, maximum heart rate, heart rate range, and VO₂ max were measured to assess cardiovascular function and aerobic performance. Results indicated significantly elevated resting heart rate and reduced heart rate range and VO₂ max following sleep deprivation. The findings reinforce the critical role of sleep in maintaining optimal athletic performance, particularly in endurance-demanding sports like cricket.
