Assessment of genetic variability, correlation and path analysis for yield and yield-attributing traits in French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
Abstract
The study evaluated 26 French bean genotypes during Rabi 2024-25 at IGKV, Raipur in a Randomized Block Design with three replications. Significant variability was observed for all morphological, yield, and quality traits. High GCV, PCV, heritability, and genetic advance were recorded for pod yield per plant, number of pods per plant, pod weight, and pod length, indicating additive gene action. Pod yield per plant showed strong positive association and direct effects with number of pods per plant, pod weight, and pod length. Genotypes 2024/FBP VAR-3, 2024/FBP VAR-5 (pole types) and 2023/FBB VAR-1, 2023/FBB VAR-7, and 2022/FBB VAR-6 (bush types) were superior for yield and related traits and can be utilized in future improvement programs under Chhattisgarh conditions.
