A prospective clinical study to assess the role of individualised homoeopathic medicines in the management of ureterolithiasis in age group of 20-50 years
Abstract
Background: Ureterolithiasis, also known as ureteric calculi are those lying within the ureter, at any point from the Ureteropelvic Junction (UPJ) to the Vesico-Ureteric Junction (VUJ). It is one of the most common afflictions observed in human because of sedentary life, due to insufficient consumption of water. Homoeopathic case taking considers the life events, emotional reactions of the patient, development and family history in treating. There are very few studies published other than some individual case reports to suggest that homeopathic remedies selected properly in consultation with Repertory as well as based on the guiding symptoms also can effectively remove a substantial percentage of renal calculi. This study is an attempt to deal with patients suffering from ureterolithiasis aiming to reduce the acute pain by Individualised Homoeopathic remedies using VAS Scale and reduction of Stone size by Individualised Homoeopathic remedies using USG. Objective: To assess the role of individualized Homoeopathic medicines in the pain reduction of ureteric calculi by using VAS Scale. Materials and Methods: A prospective comparative Clinical study of 2 years, including 30 Subjects of both the sex, between the age group of 20-50 years, fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria with a minimum follow up period of 6 months was carried out in OPD, IPD and Peripheral health camps of A. M. Shaikh Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital in Belagavi. Subject’s response to the intervention was analyzed with VAS score and was categorized into two parameters i.e., Improved and Not Improved. Result: Study shows the positive treatment response with an Individualized Homoeopathic treatment in the management of Ureterolithiasis. Improvement was observed in 25 cases. This study was done following the principles of Homoeopathy and the chi-square test was done to test the significance. Visual analogue scale of the study group, along the baseline, 7days, 15 days, 1month, 3 months and 6 months using parametric and non-parametric tests were done and the test results showed more significant changes in the outcome of Individualized Homoeopathic medicines. The study concludes that the Homoeopathic treatment is effective in the management of Ureterolithiasis. Conclusion: In this experimental pre and post research, study conducted on 30 subjects suffering from Ureterolithiasis showed statistical reduction in the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) treated with Individualized Homoeopathic medicines. The result of the study accentuates a positive impact of Individualized Homoeopathic treatment in the management of Ureterolithiasis.
