Concept of totality and its vital significance in homoeopathy

International Journal of Homoeopathic Sciences · 2026 · Vol. 10(3) · pp. 10–13

Abstract

In the realm of holistic medicine, Totality of Symptoms stands as the fundamental pillar and the unique diagnostic hallmark of homoeopathy. Unlike conventional medicine, which often focuses on isolated pathological changes or specific organ systems, homoeopathy views disease as a global disturbance of the individual's internal equilibrium, or "Vital Force." This article explores the conceptual framework of "The Totality," defining it not merely as a numerical sum of all symptoms, but as a meaningful synthesis that characterizes the patient’s unique state of suffering.
