Effect of seed treatment with different plant growth regulators on yield and its component traits in vegetable Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) var. Arka Suman

Abstract

The present study “Effect of seed treatment with different plant growth regulators on yield and its component traits in vegetable Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) var. Arka Suman” was conducted at premises of Pandit Kishorilal Shukla College of Horticulture & Research Station, Rajnandgaon (C.G.), Department of Vegetable Science, under Mahatma Gandhi University of Horticulture and Forestry,Durg (C.G.), during Summer Season of 2024-25. The experiment consisting of eleven treatments (T0 Control, T1 Indole 3 acetic acid @100ppm, T3 Indole 3 acetic acid @150ppm, T4 Kinetin@25ppm, T5 Kinetin@50ppm, T6 Naphthalene acetic acid@15ppm, T6 Naphthalene acetic acid@20 ppm, T7 Gibberellic acid@50ppm, T8 Gibberellic acid @ 75ppm, T9 Indole 3 butyric acid @100ppm, T10 Indole 3 butyric acid @ 150ppm) were laid under Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replication. Data collected on pod yield and its component was studied for different parameters indicates the presence of sufficient effect among the different treatment. Among the different treatments T8 (Gibberellic acid @ 75ppm) was found best treatment for Earliest germination in (4 days), 50% Germination (6 days), Maximum plant height (85.84cm), Earliest flowering (50.67), Earliest pod setting (55.22) and Maximum pod length (14.12cm) and T6 (Naphthalene acetic acid@20 ppm) was found the best treatment for yield performance. It also recorded the maximum pod weight (34.47 g), maximum pod diameter (4.94 mm), maximum number of pod per plant (55.52), maximum number of seed per pod (14), maximum pod yield per plant (75.19 g), maximum pod yield per plot (5.97 kg), maximum pod yield per hectare (165.03q). While minimum value was observed in T0 (control) for all parameters. On the basis of economics, treatment T6 (NAA@20ppm) was found superior with benefit cost ratio (2.64) due to lower input cost and production of higher pod yield.
