Homoeopathic management of type-II diabetes mellitus with lycopodium: A case report

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus or Hyperglycaemia is a diverse collection of illnesses resulting from an absolute or relative deficiency in insulin synthesis or activity. This deficiency of insulin is the hallmark of diabetes mellitus. This chronic hyperglycaemia is linked to end organ failure, dysfunction, and damage, especially to the heart, kidney, blood vessels, retina, and neurological system. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), 366 million people worldwide had diabetes mellitus in 2011, and by the year of 2030, that number is expected to increase to 552 million. A 72 years old male visited the SKHMC hospital and admitted in IPD with the complaints of known case of Diabetes mellitus since, 10 years and presents with burning pain in both soles and has profuse urination and itching in legs especially in both thighs. He was under allopathic medication but there is no improvement in the presenting symptoms. After detailed case taking and repertorization based on symptom similarity Lycopodium was prescribed to the patient. In this case, after repertorization the symptom similarities indicates Lycopodium- 0/1, then we prescribed this remedy to the patient as a daily dose. The patient improved within 3 months. Therefore, Homoeopathy is not just a miracle it’s a science that can manage Diabetes and kept under control whatever may be the symptoms.
