Homoeopathic management of hepatomegaly with diffuse hepatic steatosis: A case report

Abstract

Diffuse hepatic steatosis is a metabolic disorder characterized by excessive fat accumulation in hepatocytes and is commonly associated with hepatomegaly, often linked to diabetes mellitus, obesity, and lifestyle factors. Homoeopathy follows a holistic and individualized approach to restore constitutional balance. A 29-year-old female from Sivakasi presented with abdominal distension, right hypochondriac heaviness, postprandial fullness, fatigue, exertional dyspnoea, bilious vomiting, and constipation for two years and was recently diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. Clinical examination and ultrasonography revealed hepatomegaly suggestive of fatty liver, and Nux vomica was prescribed based on symptom individualization. After five months of treatment, significant improvement in clinical symptoms and reduction in liver enlargement were observed without adverse effects. This case suggests the potential role of individualized homoeopathic treatment in managing hepatomegaly associated with fatty liver disease, though further studies are required to confirm its effectiveness.
