A study on the effectiveness of dry needling and myofascial sling exercise on pain and posture among adults with lower cross syndrome
Abstract
Background: Lower cross syndrome is a common postural condition that affects due to an imbalance in muscular strength in abdominal muscles, gluteal muscles are weak whereas hip flexor muscles and low back so dry needling around low back region helps in breaking down active trigger points resulting in reduction of pain and myofascial sling exercise for posterior and spiral line increasesactivationofmuscleswhichwereunderactivetherebycorrectingposture. Methodology: 40 lower cross syndrome subjects aged 25-45years with pain and improper posture were selected. Pain was assessed using numerical pain rating scale and posture was assessed using photogrammetric analysis method. Then they were equally divided into 2groups, group A were given dry needling therapy for 4 weeks about 1session per week and group B were given dry needling and myofascial sling exercise for 4weeks about 4sessions per week. Conclusion: This study concludes that dry needling is effective in reducing pain and myofascial sling exercise is effective in improving posture, when both the treatments were given simultaneously results were more significant.
